New Terminal of Las Américas International Airport (AILA)
The New Terminal of Las Américas International Airport is one of the most important airport infrastructure projects in the country and represents a decisive step toward strengthening air connectivity, enhancing the passenger experience, and supporting the economic development of the Dominican Republic.
With an investment exceeding US$350 million, the new terminal will be able to serve approximately 4 million passengers per year, operating independently and complementarily to Terminal 1, under international standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.

A well-planned, phased project
As is the case with major airport projects worldwide, construction of the new terminal is being carried out in carefully planned phases. During 2024 and 2025, AERODOM completed a fundamental preparatory phase that included:
- 2024 – Comprehensive geotechnical and soil studies.
- November 2025 – Completion of the full schematic design of the terminal and the Energy Center.
- October–November 2025 – Obtaining environmental permits and approvals from the relevant authorities.
- June–November 2025 – Site preparation and clearance, including demolition of hangars and relocation of airlines and services.
- From June 2025 onward – Installation of perimeter fencing and relocation of electrical networks, fiber optics, and temporary lighting.
- December 2025 – Signing of the construction contract for USD 350 million, exceeding the amount committed in the Concession Agreement.
- January 2026: Preliminary site setup, construction area closure, and commencement of platform leveling and access road works.
This phase helps reduce risks and ensures that the construction stage progresses continuously and efficiently.
Progress and upcoming milestones
The project is advancing according to the approved schedule and in strict compliance with the Concession Contract. Starting in 2026, on-site progress will become increasingly visible with the commencement of earthworks, foundations, and construction of the main structure.
- February 2026 – Earthworks and preliminary works.
- August 2026 – Installation of tower cranes and start of the main building structure.
- December 2026 – Start of elevated concrete works and construction of the aviation apron structure.

Upcoming milestones
- April 2027 – Completion of Level 1 of the main building.
- August 2027 – Completion of the structural works of the main building.
- December 2027 – Completion of the terminal building roof.
- April 2028 – Completion of the terminal building façade, finalizing the building’s infrastructure.
- September 2028 – Completion of the airside platform and installation of airport equipment.
- December 2028 – Completion of construction and commissioning of systems and inspections of the new terminal.
Experience, capacity, and backing
Execution of the project is led by VINCI Construction Grands Projets and VINCI Energies, companies with extensive experience in complex projects, including world-class airport terminals such as the new international terminal at Santiago de Chile Airport, Terminal 3 at Singapore Changi Airport, the renovation and expansion of Belgrade Airport in Serbia, as well as Cancún International Airport. The architectural design, by the renowned firm Ameller Dubois with the support of Luis Vidal Arquitectos, combines international expertise and local knowledge, ensuring a modern, functional, and efficient infrastructure.

Commitment to sustainability
The new terminal has been designed with a strong environmental focus. It will include an Energy Center with solar power generation, energy-efficiency systems, responsible water-use solutions, and technical designs adapted to the local climate. The project aims to obtain LEED Silver certification (a recognition that a building meets international sustainability and environmental efficiency standards), reaffirming AERODOM’s commitment to sustainable and responsible infrastructure.
With Terminal 2, AERODOM continues to promote the long-term development of Las Américas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez, strengthening its position as a key Caribbean air hub and contributing to sustained growth in air traffic, tourism, trade, and the country’s economic competitiveness.
